The score opens with Bernstein’s “Main Title”. Scored mostly for brass, with shrill trumpets and a steamy sax solo over lower brass and a driving beat, the track provides more excitement in two minutes than the film generates in two hours.

Our Man Flint is based around a catchy and memorable main theme which is virtually ever-present. Goldsmith throws all sorts of spanners into the works, including sections for Thomas organ, electric guitars and lots and lots of percussion.

Maurice Jarre understood that it was a matter of national pride. He infused his score with an authentic French identity, and relates that he prominently featured the accordion in his signature waltz because “the instrument speaks with the voice of Paris.”

Bernard Herrmann created music that is really a cantus firmus to the sound effects and the music seems to miss something away from the sound effects. It is his only Western film score and we can listen the themes Prelude and Siesta.

Music critic Lawrence Morton said of Adolph Deutsch that “any overall description of his music must include such terms as bold, complex and thick-textured, dissonant, sonorous, fragmentary in thematic material and rich in developmental processes.”

The main theme is repeated over and over. The wordless voice of Edda Dell'Orso floats on layers of organ, violins, maybe earlier synths, mixed with sparse tickling piano, flugelhorn, harpsichord. Each time you play it, the theme stays in your mind.

Dramatic and romantic, at times exciting, it’s a terrific John Barry score bolstered by one of his trademark gorgeous main themes, this time a waltz showcased in the opening titles piece. There’s a great love theme, harmonically close to the main theme

The main theme is a fully Italian romanticism, with a notable presence of piano, strings, key and even a few choirs that sweeten the melody, so in vogue in those years. A special touch that makes it so appreciated by the soundtracks fans.
