I think the key to really enjoying a David Foster Wallace novel is being the kind of person who tends to relate things in a needlessly convoluted fashion. At least it’s worked for me.

I’m reading Confessions for the first time since college.
I’m thinking it would have been really interesting to read right after I finished Infinite Jest. Augustine’s feelings of the flesh against the spirit reminds me so much of the addiction themes in IJ.

White Teeth by Sadie Smith is a great read. One of the funniest books I read in 2024. I miss the characters more than any book I’ve read in a long time.

Finished Stella Maris, an incredibly fun and interesting read. Highly recommend, as the book is just a series of conversations that actually flow really well despite the subject matter.
However, the VF article’s revelations were pretty present and the end and really gross.

Stella Maris really covers a lot of ground very quickly. The man goes from the nature of insanity to mathematical platonism in just a few paragraphs.

Just started my final book of McCarthy's fiction, Stella Maris. Nothing but a two person dialogue. He's covered the gamut of themes he's covered in the rest of his books, along with just a ton of science and math discussions. Really fast paced with incredibly dense material, a fun combination.
