While we interact with AI through apps and chatbots, the real environmental story happens behind the scenes in massive data centers. Here is my blogpost about the topic

What are the environmental impacts of artificial intelligence?
A single AI-focused data center can use as much electricity as a small city and as much water as a large neighborhood.

Trump wants to bring back coal—but coal is already on its way out, and for good reason. It’s outdated, dangerous, and deadly: more people have died in US coal mines than all the people from the US who died in Vietnam, the Gulf War, and the Iraq war combined.

Today, EPA's Lee Zeldin announced rollbacks on key environmental regulations, including pollution limits for coal plants, climate rules & EV standards. He called it a “consequential" day of deregulation, but for those who care about clean air & water, it's one of the most destructive in US history.

Elon Musk, the unelected head of “government efficiency,” demanded federal employees report their weekly accomplishments—or risk their jobs. Let’s not ignore what federal scientists actually do. Here’s what they achieved last week (and every week)📤

Firings at Los Alamos included “the emergency preparedness manager,… the radiation protection manager,.. the security manager, the fire protection engineer, and two facility representatives”. This is shockingly irresponsible, to put it politely.
Inside DOGE’s Dumbest Cut Yet
Last week’s hastily reversed firings at the National Nuclear Security Administration have left a reeling, rattled agency in their wake.

I guess someone finally told DOGE exactly what it is the NNSA does... "Oh, really?? Maybe we do need that after all." Aside from being illegal, this 'shoot first, think later' approach is going to catch up to us very soon.
US goverment seeks to rehire recently fired nuclear workers

🚨The Trump administration has illegally seized power not granted to it by the US Constitution and is actively disregarding the rule of law.

New Mexicans are out in force to oppose plutonium pit production at Los Alamos. UCS agrees- it’s unnecessary, endangers workers and the public, and confirms US failure to move away from a reliance on nuclear deterence. I provided commentary and encourage others to do the same.

Let's talk science and keep working toward a just and equitable world for everyone. I have been hesitant to start on another social media platform, but these don't seem like times to stay quiet.

We've reached 1.5°C global warming.
With current policies, we're heading for a catastrophic 2.7°C warming.
A new review paper in Science shows: this would change the Arctic 'beyond recognition', with knock-on effects (like rising seas) around the world. 🌊

🚨 The Trump administration is attempting to seize power beyond what the Constitution allows—giving Elon Musk, an unelected billionaire, unchecked influence.

As a federal scientist, expert, or civil servant, you have rights. Don’t let them bully you.
