Autumn means shorter days.
That last light in the mountains always comes at a low angle, changing the landscape dramatically.

Evening in the mountains—sheep gathering between dust and the golden light of sunset. The shepherd guides them with precision, turning routine into a daily dance of tradition and movement.

It’s raining. The sun casts a final beam, fighting its battle before the day ends, while the valley has already surrendered to the dark.

Morning light in the deep valley of Val de Bagnes. Late autumn whispers that snow is near…

Seasonal transition. Autumn is fully here: golden larches glowing, thirsty glaciers waiting. Time holds its breath. Do I want to keep these colors, or am I ready for a thick white cap?

After five days hiking in the mountains, I ventured onto the wild beaches of Olympic National Park.
An approaching storm added a dramatic touch to an already rugged landscape.
Driftwood, pebbles, starfish…

2010 - Sol Duc Waterfall - Olympic National Park.
After all the autumn rain, the falls were roaring.
Hard not to stop, set the tripod, and play with shutter speed and composition.

2010 - Olympic National Park
Black and white edit of my previous post.
I remember this place being truly unique, slightly rainy, cold, the parking lot empty, and the Hoh River rushing nearby.

Do you prefer the colour or the Black and White edit ? I’d love to hear! 🤗

Every scenery is different, tinged with autumn lights and colors. When the path climbs, it crosses an alpine forest, leaving the rainforest down in the valley. Higher up some lakes are appearing, perfect links between the woods and the alpine meadows.

"#OlympicNP ...it is absolutely necessary to hike along those large rivers, to touch the mosses and the lichens in the temperate rainforest, to climb above timberline on the alpine meadow in order to catch a glimpse at the Olympic glaciers… without going too fast..."

2010 - There are those trips that make you forget everything about time and space. You begin to live at a different pace — closer to what’s truly fundamental: eating, sleeping, staying warm… and in my case, walking. Link in comment for the story.

I can’t get enough of that view, especially when heavy dark clouds sweep over Mont Blanc at day’s end, revealing the jagged Aiguilles de Chamonix. What a mood!

Moody light over Aiguille Verte. This giant summit of the Mont Blanc massif was shy that day, but it offered a perfect chance to showcase the iconic Grand Dru and the dramatic glaciers.

Moody light over Val d'arpmtte . The Aiguilles Dorées and Aiguille du Tour were sometimes showing , most of the time remaining shy and hidden. I just love those conditions.

As the evening settles, the mist rises, wrapping the hills in silence. A peaceful moment in the Swiss Alps.

Hiking in fall feels like wandering through enchanted woods. Every step stirs the giant leaf mattress beneath, and suddenly — you're a child again.

Autumn and its show.
Colors everywhere in Jura, each tree choosing its own palette, especially when the light softens and lets the forest speak.

Above the clouds during an inversion — warmer, sunnier, and the landscape kept changing. Clouds played with the trees, colours shifted with the light, and I could have stayed for hours watching the show.

A foggy morning when everything felt unreal and questions became simple. Are the trees close or distant? Will the sun win the battle today? Stay and watch, or climb through the clouds to find the light above ?

At the beginning of autumn, I reached one of my favorite summits in my area — a true belvedere over the valley. The weather was just the way I like it: moody skies, passing rain, and a few rays of sun bringing life to the landscape.

Clouds were constantly shifting — getting thinner or thicker, changing the mood, revealing colours or hiding them again. I only had to adjust the settings and let nature decide what it wanted to show.

Clouds were at the level of the lake — just a thin layer, enough to let the blue of the sky shine through, yet dense enough to hold the mystery of autumn. And of course, the colours…

Fall is my favourite season for so many reasons, one being the incredible moods one can find just by venturing outside. The light is different, fog and clouds are easy to find, and of course the colours are stunning and mesmerising.
