We found that all images sent via LinkedIn messages still contain the original metadata.

From now on, keep in mind that:
👉 When you send a picture to a LinkedIn contact, the message may contain more details and information than you actually want!

Together with CYREN ZH we're introducing a series of OSINT playdates throughout the year. The exercises will focus on solving, exchanging different approaches, techniques, and best practices, and of course, to meet likeminded OSINTers.

🕵🏻 We found a way to identify scheduled post on LinkedIn. All you need is for the post to contain an image, video or other type of document.

● Extract upload date of image/video included into the post
● Extract the date and time of the post
● If the dates are very different, it is a scheduled post
February 17, 2025 at 6:16 AM
We discovered a way to find out the date when a profile picture was last uploaded or edited:

● Right-click on the image
● Save the image
● Parse the filename into a Unix timestamp

Even more fascinating is that this technique allows you to extract the exact date when any type of media was uploaded
February 14, 2025 at 8:11 PM
🔎 We stumbled across a technique that allows to extract the exact date and time of a LinkedIn post on

● Get the post ID from the URL
● Convert the post ID to binary
● Convert the 41 "left-most" bits of the binary back to decimal
● Parse the decimal into a Unix Timestamp.
● That's it!

🕵🏻 As OSINTers, we are constantly learning new methods of gathering and deriving additional information in different ways. It's always important to test the effectiveness and correctness of the technique on test data (i.e. a fake account) where you know what the expected result should be.

🕵🏻 The mystery is solved and X-Mas is saved, thanks to over 500 participants!

It was a wild ride chasing a thief around the globe using only critical thinking and OSINT techniques. It took a lot of skill, perseverance and dedication.
