Our final orca encounter of 2025 was an acoustic one on the evening of 12/29, as we heard Southern Resident calls for over 2 hours on the North San Juan Channel hydrophone!

Extended live concert in North San Juan Channel from J & K pods. They sounded VERY excited tonight. Vocalizations began ~8pm and continued for nearly 2 hours!

Between ship noise, a listener detected humpback non-song vocalization around 9pm this evening (10/25). This is a first for Orcasound Lab in Haro Strait this fall! (& will provide valuable test data for the DAS4oras project...)

J pod signals heard for nearly 3 hours last night (9/21/25) from 19:25-22:21, including lots of calls and echolocation clicks. Some of the clearest calls (and lowest vessel noise levels) happened around 20:00.

10:37-10:53 this a.m., Bigg's #orcas called on the Orcasound Lab hydrophone. Thanks to AIS/radar vessel tracks & Pete Ancich sharing IDs, we know these sounds came from ~10 southbound orcas: the T36A & T65B matrilines.

10:40 Bigg's KW calls on the Orcasound Lab hydrophone! Probably two different groups, based on relative amplitudes and whale watch boats that are already southbound past the site... based on the M2 radar system.
