Caught up in design systems and operations, trombone fancier, organically curious, free-range raised.
So frustrated with ChatGPT 5.0. I wish there was a way to force projects to use an older model.

I appreciate Claude more every day.

That dry garden rug looks awesome!

Some great @figma.com features released this week, including variable filtering and search. But the real win for me is being able to assign a keyboard shortcut to toggle the variable panel.

Have you tried the Zen browser? So far, it's been a good Arc replacement for me.

That and when they randomly decide to stop, declare victory, and call it a day.

Not yet. But a case study of the approach is coming (soon?)

With multi-brand, the decision layer has to be very robust. But I'm trying to keep the number of semantic tokens for consumption very low. Functional tokens are clearly named with intent/component nodes, and scoped for system use only.

Agreed, semantic = decision. And there are more semantic decisions than just colors. Currently building a system with semantic brand themes sitting above everything, and color modes at a lower level. Exactly what you’re saying, but with modes, for brands.

Building a simple tool in Figma Make for exploring number sequences. Generates curves manually or with presets, and visually compares them to classics like Fibonacci, primes, triangular numbers, etc. Perfect for color ramps, motion curves, scales, and other design system nerdery.

Ah. Such big sound on that horn.
Still waiting for someone to make a movie that takes place on that snowy night he died back in ‘72.

Loved @discolu.bsky.social's Medium post about ditching 4px spacing for the Fibonacci sequence.

Looked into polygonal numbers for a similar purpose, and my hot take: Triangular numbers > Fibonacci for spacing 😍

Similar progression, but without the wild exponential jump at larger numbers.

Without the ability to set individual rows or columns to hug, grid layout in Figma has pre-auto-layout vibes and gives me anxiety.

It’s a bit unfortunate that my long-standing dislike of em-dashes might now come across as an attempt to avoid looking like AI. I’ve simply preferred spaced en-dashes for years, thanks to Erik Spiekermann.

9 male characters vs 2 female. That checks out – and it’s the reason I stopped watching his movies.

Also, the elusive Jeyn Air.

The Snoopy ones have awesome color palettes.

I think of Figma as the tool where decisions visually manifest, regardless of where they’re stored. It’s an essential tool in the stack for designers to make core decisions, and to me, states naturally fit into that workflow.

Then I suppose I wish they had used New York instead. True italics, with their distinct letterforms, would make summaries stand out and be more accessible. And, personally, a touch more refined.
January 19, 2025 at 2:43 AM
@gruber.foo Apple using italics for summarized notifications is indeed clever. I just wish they had chosen a font with true italics rather than an oblique version of (presumably) San Francisco.

Almost two years, and Figma still doesn’t support string variables for line-height. Let us use percentages instead of calculating one for every text size!
January 17, 2025 at 1:16 AM
Yes! Inverse that is independent of light/dark mode, right? Working on that for banners with photo backgrounds.

Congrats to @fieldnotesbrand.bsky.social on celebrating 20 years!

Love the anniversary editions 🔥

Exactly what I’m doing these days! The plugin is really powerful now in terms of variable creation, but boy, is it finicky!

I’d love to see a crossover between Planet of the Apes and Silo where Bad Ape and Solo team up for something crucial—essentially the same character in different species, both played by Steve Zahn.
