Could we stop saying that ICE murdering Americans has been a "step too far", please? If it was a step too far, ICE and all the people responsible would be in manacles awaiting arraignment or trial right now. Until that happens, they're still in power and nothing has changed.

I have wanted, since I was a teenager, for the USA to abandon its police-state grip on the rest of the world. To chill the fuck out, 'cause I was born in the tail end of the Cold War.

I never figured it would happen in the stupidest possible way.

I have said it before and will repeat it forever. I know it comes somewhat from my bias as an artist, but I'm also a working scientist.

Fascism, especially the current brand, is an aesthetic movement. Some are motivated by bigotry, but mostly the fascists just want to redecorate per their whims.

Realistically, to recover from the destruction and data theft, we are going to need to rebuild the entire federal government infrastructure from the frame up.

This won't happen. I have no idea what monster Frankenstein will sew together on the slab, but it won't be starring in a del Toro film.

I hope to never understand the weird impulse some people have to strangle hope in its crib.

We know the Epstein files will never be released by Trump. But stop insisting that the effort is already over. You're being fucking weird, which is nosing in on Republican's territory.

A year ago, I said that we would watch the Democrats, particularly the establishment gerontarchs of the Senate, fold repeatedly to Trump just like they did the first time.

They started flaccidly complying before the inauguration, but last night was just another example of it. They need to go away.

In 2020, Biden assured wealthy donors that nothing would fundamentally change. He followed through on that promise and 4 years of detente occurred while the wreckers planned.

I truly fear the impulse elderly pols will have to pretend that 2019 was a good year to reset to.

After we survive this.

American journalism was full to the gills with pretentious and prissy gadabouts in 2015 when the industry was dying. It was saved by a combination of Trump capturing every headline and right-wing billionaire propagandists buying them up.

Of course the cowards misrepresent everything Trump does.

Some day we're going to reckon with the society-wide mental health damage being done by 2025.

I hope it can be a little more sincere than the MAGA-influenced histrionics about covid and having to care about other people. Maybe if we remove billionaires from media, there's a chance.

I am seeing that the trend of right-on-right violence continues.

Reminder that Mangione was also definitely right-of-center.

The rush to blame "The Left" (whoever they are) certainly does get undermined by nearly every murderer being "conservative." Which is a euphemism.

As liberals performatively wring their hands, I feel it incumbent on me to point out that the violence will continue as long as the fascist movement exists.

No amount of good will and happy thoughts will change that. So cut the crap already.

I keep seeing people wonder where the vengeful lightning from heaven is while Republican christofascists lie flagrantly and shamelessly about Trump and Epstein.

Seems like a solid argument for atheism. It certainly doesn't suggest good things that people invoke "God" while protecting predators.

As more and more companies kiss the ring despite the circus falling apart in front of their eyes (gotta ram that illegal merger through somehow), will we hold them to account in the aftermath?

I ask rhetorically. We won't. Literally look at all the companies still around who did so in Germany.

Has anyone commented on the fact that "birthright citizenship" is a colonizer tactic to dispossess indigenous people and legitimize the invaders?

I hate that the admin is playing this game, but are we just going to ignore *WHY* the US has a jus soli policy?

"If you desire war, prepare for war."

That's how the old Latin phrase properly goes.

What is maddening
is that when we escape this hell of
some
of our's making
the majority will demand we return
to exactly what allowed
all of
this
to
happen
and we'll backslide within months at most
nothing will fundamentally change
not for the
people
whose wealth matters
more than human
life
