Eurovizija.LT 2026 hit Heat 4 with the sort of line‑up that makes you wonder if LRT accidentally scheduled the semi‑final early. Eight acts, barely any dead weight, and a results graphic just begging to be turned into a spreadsheet. Eesti Laul 2026 is done and dusted, and Estonia has picked its next victim – sorry, representative – for Vienna after a brisk, no‑nonsense final (Including a break for the news!)in Tallinn that finally remembered the whole point is the songs, not how many skits you can squeeze between them. New look, same attitude ERR kept things sensibly scaled this year: still in the Unibet Arena in Tallinn, still very much a TV show rather than a stadium blow‑out despite about 5,000 mad Estonians in attendance,  but all done with a tidied‑up aesthetic and far fewer bells and whistles.

Melodifestivalen rolled into Kristianstad for Heat 3, delivering a night where party anthems and rock riffs comfortably outmuscled the subtler end of Swedish pop. The six competing entries offered a mix of rock, high‑energy pop, contemporary radio sounds and ballad‑leaning material. Rock and party pop brought the biggest reactions in the arena, while the more contemporary and understated numbers relied on atmosphere and storytelling rather than spectacle.

Greece’s new‑look Sing for Greece kept the momentum going with a second semi final that felt very much like a statement of intent: tightly run, unapologetically current, and absolutely stacked with fan‑friendly names. The show Semi two came from Peiraios 260 in Athens on 13th February, with 14 acts fighting over the last seven tickets to Sunday's final. As in the first show, it was 100% televote, with international viewers allowed to join in via online voting, which immediately tilted the line‑up towards songs that could travel beyond ERT’s domestic audience.

Live from Peiraios 260, ERT rolled out the full “we’re taking Eurovision seriously this year, honest” package: moody blues ( in the background, not the group!), tasteful golds and enough lens flare to make you reach for a tissue to wipe the TV ( Not a euphamism!).  The running order was paced like a mini Eurovision — three minutes of chaos, three minutes of feelings, repeat — with the hosts gamely herding acts, ad breaks and voting reminders into something that just about resembled a television show which, of course, didn't run to time - but why the hell would it?

Supernova 2026 rolled into its second semi‑final determined to prove Latvia still has more to offer than earnest alt‑ballads and one novelty act per show – and naturally, we still got both and still no Riga Beaver!   Building on the groundwork from the first semi, this one felt and looked somewhat tighter, louder, and just chaotic enough to remind you this is Baltic TV on a Saturday night, not a cut‑price Melodifestivalen.

Three weeks in and I am really running out of words to describe this bunch of songs in any meaningful way! - Lithuania know how to string you along and we are now half way through their mamoth selection show, Eurovizija.LT.  This week's lambs that no one outside of Lithuania bothered with were : Top 2 went to direct to the final with the third placed song going into a wild card qualifier at some point in the future, hopefully ebfore hell freezes over!

Semi‑final 2 of Melodifestivalen 2026 is in the books and Sweden has once again proved that even their “filler” Saturday night show looks more expensive than most countries’ actual Eurovision staging.  Despite focussing on the Winter Olympics you can bet nearly three million people eschwed skating for schlager. The show The circus rolled into Gothenburg with an arena full of people who apparently pre‑drink on glitter and key changes and balloons - well it is Sweden.
