(She/They). I'm trying to learn art. Once my training is done I'll get back to drawing things that aren't practice related. Any tips from people who can help are welcome. Currently trying to learn how to think in 3d and anatomy.

I’ve decided to go on my training arc. This image is the best I can do right now, so this is the mark that I hope to be better than after all this. Tomorrow, I’m doing that square drawing exercise.

This one came out alright. I tried something slightly different with the eyes and shading and while the highlights on the swearer look nice, the shading is a little muddy and I’m still not sure about the face.

With this done, I've finished the first batch of test sketches. I am now doing perspective training since everything I've drawn has had no background and has been drawn like a sticker.

To start with foreshortening, I made this by directly sketching this over a person doing this pose. It’s very ehh, especially the face which looks 2d since all of my characters have never been drawn with any form of perspective.

I've realized what I'm doing wrong. I'm not thinking in 3d. Regardless of how much practice I do, I'm thinking in 2d which doesn't work for perspective. Sadly, I didn't realize this until I spent all of my drawing time today making this sketch wondering why it wasn't looking right.

Overall, I think there's a good chunk of improvement with this. Some of the limbs look a little wack, but they're way more interestingly shaped and things actually have texture without using the texture overlays.

So I've learned what I'm looking for is not perspective but foreshortening. I made this sketch just to see how well I would do with no guides so I'm not gonna bother tagging it. This is more a status update than anything.
