2020 Stay at Home Order + One mom and an awesome helper kiddo + Lots of chalk = Mom found a new mission leaving colorful messages for NKCSD staff/students
I wanted to chalk this quote the moment I heard it, but had to wait for an open day. It felt like it should go with the clasped hands drawing, so we refreshed the hands and added We the People. I had grand plans of including a parchment paper background, but the wind...

We enjoyed the beautiful weather today. My shadow kept going over it, which made getting pictures a bit difficult.

Today was beautiful, so we took some time to go out and color. I remembered to sign it this time, but I forgot to bring the water bottle to mist it, so we went back later for that. I will always forget something one way or another, so balance was maintained.

I still needed more time to be distracted from everything going on, so we made another drawing at the front entrance yesterday. When we'd finished, I mentioned that I would make a drawing at every entrance if I could, and my sweet kiddo replied, "We'll get the others next time."

Saturday was so miserably cold, I didn't think I would get to make any chalk drawings this weekend, but when we went to run an errand Sunday, it wasn't that bad, so I asked if we could go out for a bit.

Saw this on a church's marquee board, and we liked it.

My kiddo, aka Amazing Helper, was in a class here, so I colored for a bit.

My kid laughed at me when I asked if we could go over to make this because it was the warmest that it was going to be for a while. I had to clarify that I didn't say it was warm, just warmest. We skipped the contrast color that helps the text look nicer and more readable, but it's down.

Chillier than I'd like, but still happy to get out in January.

Birthdays didn’t bother me until I lost my dad, but then they became a reminder that he isn’t here to call me anymore, and they can be a bit rough. Now, I look for distractions and appreciate days like today when my husband is able to take the day off, so...

Refreshed the colors on the two drawings that were there and added a quick new one. I know the old drawings will be new to the new students, but I wanted something new for the staff, too, even if it was small.

Needed a distraction. There's another idea for this text, but it needs more space, and I didn't want to clear off all the salt stuff they had down because we’ll have yucky icy stuff again at some point.

We visited family last week, and their weather was in the 70s, so I couldn’t pass up making a drawing. I’m not sure if it survived the rain that came later that night—it was in a covered area, but the sidewalk was wet when we were there.

These canvases were requested by an NKCSD staff member after they saw the RBG canvas I gave to one of our special teachers a few years ago. One canvas is for them to keep, and the other is a gift for their friend, who is also a part of NKCSD.

When I go more than a week without making a drawing, I get anxious that I won't be able to pull off another drawing. When it goes more than two weeks, the nerves are even higher. This quote was what I needed to hear myself to get back out there and take advantage of the warmer night.

The covered area at Oak Park is still full with the umbrella drawing we did there, so we made this at Antioch. I’m hoping some of our current teachers will have their PD there, so they see it too.

My kiddo is participating in a Science Olympiad tournament here, and I finally remembered to ask the school beforehand if it would be okay to make a chalk drawing. It was a beautiful day to draw, so I appreciate them sharing their sidewalks with me.

If you’ve ever read something, and it made you cry because you needed to hear it so much, then you’ll understand why a @thebloggess.bsky.social Substack post made me cry. And as usual, when I need to hear something, I want to chalk it because I feel that others need to hear it, too.

I wanted to see the NKC Schools Education Foundation t-shirt design in all the chalky colors from the moment I saw it, and I finally have! I appreciate all the work they do for our schools and students.

A partial preview of drawings we made to thank our Education Foundation for the work they do. They do wonderful things for our schools, and my kids have benefited from programs they have helped fund.

This was my plea to my kids after reading the email notifying families that our high school lost a student. It’s also my plea to anyone else who may be struggling—asking for help is not being weak, don’t let your lying brain tell you otherwise.

This drawing was to show support for The Dakota Rogers Project. It isn't one of our usual colorful ones, but I wanted something that shows how connection, kindness, and hope brings color into our lives and fights back the darkness.

When I had to find something else to draw last weekend, my kiddo looked through saved pictures to try to find something. This made us laugh, but it wasn’t something for a school or library, so I had to wait to borrow a friend’s driveway.
