The debate about engaging with religion on the left always gets stuck on whether religion is fundamentally reactionary or progressive, instead of recognising there are always strains of both in conflict. The only useful response is to elevate the latter to counteract the former

One problem with arguments about 'separating the art from the artist' is that some people mean that in an analytical sense and others in an experiential sense, so the conclusions from that same phrase can be entirely different

All I can add to the 'are audiobooks reading' discourse is that a number of times I've listened to a novel and thought the prose was okay, then gone back to read the physical book and been far more impressed. Clearly something is lost, and that something is key to my maximal enjoyment of literature
