Coming back to this because I’m listening to the Odd Lots podcast and they report that Powell is retaining counsel at his own expense and that the Fed is prohibited from indemnifying for legal costs. The more you (by which I mean I) know!

I think the most likely scenario is the tax money was already used to pay for a D+O insurance policy and the legal costs will be paid by a large private insurer.
