I bought a little radio that's been bringing me a lot of joy lately. I took some nice pictures of it to share! omarshehata.me/notebook/my_...

I keep reading takes like this from smart, well informed people but I'm struggling to get it. I feel like I need a lot more background on media literacy/historical context here (with concrete examples to help me). anyone have any recommendations?

Did you know Google Earth released an API this year to fetch any piece of the earth as a standard glTF you can render in any engine? I built a little viewer app with simple example code: (1) Get an API key (2) run the script and get a 3D model of anywhere on earth!

Since the app doesn't give you an easy way to see this (my bad 😅) here's the titles of all the advice 🌈 internet strangers 🌈 left in the app!

This week’s 🍓 App of the Week 🍓 is definitely our jam. Code jam, that is!

Check out @omarshehata.bsky.social’s Code Jam submission for "self portrait", advice-to-myself.glitch.me and add your advice too!

TIL if you are editing a git repo on the remote itself, you just commit. You don't need to `git push`. Because there's no where to push to, you are on the remote!

Working on something kinda weird/experimental, for Glitch's "self portrait" code jam

I'm usually terrible at design so I'm just putting in all the content first & gonna style it later, working out well so far!

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who think monkeypatching is a good thing, and those who think it is evil

This is really important context to understand when reading aid numbers

A lot of times it's not really aid, but more investments in the American economy itself. No different than the cheese caves
Tens of billions? Nope. The military aid the US does send, which is single-digit billions/year, is mostly things Israel doesn't need, and it must be spent on US imports, rather than on domestic Israeli products; it's a way of keeping some US defense spending off-books, is all.

I've been wanting to write this article for a while but it's not "good enough" so let me just draft it out here:

"Why do some people say purple is not a real color?"

To explain this, let's do a little thought experiment.

Imagine a mouse in a box. You can't see it, but you have a proximity sensor

"The right lesson from enshitification is not that we have uniquely evil tech leaders. The lesson is that we have uniquely weak constraints on ordinary people that leads them into this absolutely wicked course of action"

Every fucking company has an app now and they have spent so much money on the app that they don't support the website is my crank theory. I do not want to download another fucking app, I want to use the goddamn web. I am old.

I have a modest following on Twitter for my graphics writing, which has always felt a little restrictive when I wanted to share writing about personal reflections or whatever.

but I have 0 followers here right now so I can post about anything! No one can stop me!!
