To our international friends struggling in the heat. This is what summer is meant to be… According to British weather, and British historical costume drama. Which is: 15 to 20c, partly cloudy, a light breeze, and drizzle every now and then. Jane Austen would (I am sure) approve of this message.

Crux (the Southern Cross, almost horizontal in this photo) is part of some of the best parts of the Milky Way. And gosh, the southern tip of Africa (away from Cape Town) really does get some amazingly clear dark skies.

The skies look different from the bottom of Africa. Here’s Canis Major (if you can find the big dog), with the ever-impressive Sirius. All at an angle that I’m not used to seeing in the northern hemisphere!
