Sounds of silence: electric mobility promises a quieter soundscape for wildlife, but may challenge ultrasonically sensitive species globally
Expanding transportation networks generate anthropogenic noise, a stressor for wildlife. The rapid transition to electric mobility, with projections of 40-45 million new electric vehicles (EVs) annual...

Batworkers doing cave counts, watch out! #bats
ETHOLOGY: Orb web spiders usually catch flying prey. But what to do in a cave where most prey is walking? 🕷️🕸️🪰🪲

Prey Capture Outside of the Web? Observational Evidence of a Novel Form of Prey Capture in a Cave Orb Web Spider
It is currently not known how the European cave orb spider Meta menardi (d) catches the non-flying prey, which makes up approximately half of its diet. Our observations in winter and summer from cave...

When bats can't hear...

... they compensate by adapting their flight path and vocalizations.
They flew lower, oriented themselves along walls and increased both the number and length of their calls, boosting the power of echo signals used for navigation.

Which he implemented physically using a wooden mouse named Theseus.

To solve a given maze, on a grid, Theseus used two modes:
