You can tell it's a hairy long stem marasmius when it has a long, hairy stem and it's a marasmius.

Glorious, orchid-colored Clavaria zollingeri, spotted at the side of a trail in Candler, NC back in June 2024. First time spotting this for me (it's not rare, but doesn't grow in Chicago!)
