It's funny that the assembly of the web is not really wasm, it's vanilla javascript.

Like, both vanilla javascript and assembly are generally a compile target and most people don't write it by hand and it's hard to write by hand especially for big programs.

And svelte is I guess like C?

Trenitalia bingo, on my new blog (hand crafted with Rust, of course)

Preferring to be short is like preferring winter. It is better in many ways, and you can use technology to go counteract the effects (e.g., high shoes/coats)... and yet most people prefer the opposite. hmm

Wait, the functor => applicative => monad hierarchy is not a fundamentally mathematical result thingy?? Is it just a reasonable decision from Haskell? Is it not a deep truth of how computation works, backed by the unbreakable rigor of math???

I feel betrayed 🥺🥺

I was wondering how come that Haskell isn't incredibly inefficient since the basic list used everywhere is a linked list which is generally very bad for performance.

Then I realized that evaluation is lazy, so these linked lists act more like rust's Iterator rather than Vecs!

i wonder if it's a matter of time before wgpu becomes more accessible/high level/better documented.

i've just started implementing a ui for github.com/odilf/chessa... using wgpu and I feel I've learned a new superpower compared to web stuff, but maaaan there's so much boilerplate

Man this part 2 was a doozy. I has super nice and elegant code for part 1 but I just started stacking bodges on top of bodges for part 2 lol. But it worked! #AdventOfCode adventofcode.com/2024/day/17

my new year's resolution is to use "babe" as an expression (and tbh all the other mannerisms she does here).

spacetime dilation and most other funky special relativity stuff is only half the story. i didn't realize until now, but special relativity is really about Lorentz covariant functions.

It's literally encoded in the two postulates proposed by Einstein:

In art, the more generic/unoriginal an idea is, the more I feel it needs to be well executed. I.e., if a song has an original idea that is way out there, then it could sound kind of bad and I wouldn’t care. But, if the idea was generic, then it would need to “earn” its place it the execution.

Spending a month on Bluesky has created a whole new model of a fight we need to be having right now. Not liberal vs. conservative or whatever, but respect vs manipulation.

I am tired of being manipulated everywhere I go. That’s why I like it here, I feel like I’m in charge for once.
