The holidays are a time for gratitude and reflection. Belizeans share a deep connection to the sea: a source of food, jobs, culture, and natural beauty. Protecting our marine resources is how we honor that connection and ensure a healthy sea for the future. Take action here: bit.ly/4pGKdpn

Like many other species, the parrotfish plays an important role in maintaining the health of our reef. Their constant grazing with their parrot-like beaks gives coral space to breathe and grow, just like weeding helps flowers flourish in a garden.

This holiday season, let's celebrate differently by protecting what we love. Join us in reducing single-use plastics and disposing of waste properly. Our oceans have no room for pollution, but plenty of room for hope when we act together.

#Didyouknow manatee grazing helps the ocean?

When manatees eat seagrass, it encourages fresh, healthy shoots to grow, similar to how mowing a lawn promotes new growth. Younger seagrass is more nutritious and better at supporting marine life.

Happy #ManateeMonday!

#DYK Although they are nicknamed "sea cows", the closest relative to today's manatees is actually the elephant! The nickname "sea cow" is most likely in reference to the manatee's slow nature and large stature.

Oceana joined a community-led cleanup in Hopkins this week, collecting 60 bags of garbage! 👏💪 A powerful reminder that protecting our reef starts with us. 💙

This weekend, let’s cut down on single-use plastics & keep trash where it belongs — not in our sea. 🌊
