Wonder where I can get hold of the old cabinet Office Manuals to add to NZLII? Hmmm. Wonder if Parliamentary Library has them all in paper?

Thanks for putting the idea in my head

Well @strictlyobiter.bsky.social and @publicaddress.bsky.social asked

How much realistically can I do today?
I have 15 things on my immediate NZLII to do list.
How many should I expect to get done today?
Before you say none as it is a Saturday - I have hurt my knee so can not do much else, and husband has his game afternoon/evening on. Perfect time to do NZLII stuff

Can not remember any other New Zealand High Court cases about ostriches!

The judgment referred to in this Stuff article www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3606...
is available on NZLII here - www.nzlii.org/nz/cases/NZD...
Quarry owners fined $272,000 for ‘complete disregard’ for law
A huge increase in truck numbers alerted residents and the council to illegal activity at the quarry.

Anyone who reads the decisions of the NZ Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority (www.nzlii.org/nz/cases/NZP... ) would never advocate for Security guards being allowed to carry batons, tasers or pepper spray - newsroom.co.nz/2025/03/05/r...

Going through the New Zealand Gazette files before they are conveyed to AustLII to be added to our exceedingly popular New Zealand Gazettes database - and came across this gem from 1905

I should never make predictions. The big round number has just been achieved (so today, and not Tuesday or Wednesday as I predicted in my previous post) - and by a database not in that list.🎈🥳
There are now 600,000 documents on NZLII with the updating of the Treaties database
February 24, 2025 at 5:37 AM
Perhaps tomorrow, if not tomorrow then definitely Wednesday, NZLII will reach another round figure of number of documents on it. What that document will be is more uncertain than usual as there are a lot of things awaiting loading.

When you see an email from the NZSC (Supreme Court) in your inbox and get excited that it might be a very early (for them) first decision from them for 2025 - only to find it a resend of a 2024 decision (presumably there had been a correction made)

So with Aotearoa/New Zealand Tribunals and Councils generally opening for 2025 on Monday, my biggest thought is which will be the first to load a 2025 decision to NZLII. I will most likely be wrong but I reckon it will be between
Auckland Council DLC
Queenstown DLC
ERA

My guess is Queenstown

Just seen [2024] NZHC 3900 - will at least 100 New Zealand High Court decisions get issued either tomorrow or Monday?

I do not usually have time to read cases at the moment but sometimes I just have a peak - and the one I looked at this morning while psyching myself up to tackle my very long to do list had these two gems in it
December 2, 2024 at 7:23 PM
On 1 January 2024 there was 65,128 cases in NZLII's NZ High Court database. As of midday today, there is 75,128 - exactly 10,000 decisions have been added to that database. I'm pretty sure that is a record for us. And for it to coincide with our 20th anniversary makes it even more special.

From a 1996 NZ High Court case - wonder what his radical views on the role of women were?

Got a dilemma for #NZLaw nerds (or anyone who likes things to be accurate!)
Got a High Court decision with a date on the copy we have clearly saying 14 December.
Westlaw has a copy, same everything except their copy says 17 December.
Lexis does not have a copy.
Too old to just go back to the Court

I'm predicting now the the NZ High Court will produce over 4000 decisions this year. Last year it did just under 3900 - but, by the MNC, the Court is running two weeks ahead of the equivalent numbering to last year. I know no one else cares about this but I love this sort of stat

@kiwiev.bsky.social Do you know anything about the BYD recall?

Oh dear. I need to find time this weekend to cull already processed judgments before it hits 1000

Just read an older NZHC case where the Justice was trying (and failing) to say politely
"what the **** was the Family Court Judge doing/thinking when they made this order"
It came to me redacted so am unable to check that my suspicion that the father will have later DV cases against him is correct.

Just read a fascinating NZ case delivered yesterday that just screams, make me into an exam question. It has so many fascinating angles though I could see students going off on a tangent (like I did reading it!)

NZLII is thrilled to welcome the Ruapehu District Council to our growing family of Councils putting their District Licensing Committee (ie alcohol) decisions on NZLII.
The DLC databases get an incredible amount of use on NZLII - over two million uses were made of them in 2023.
