I tried to finish Stay True by Hua Hsu (Pulitzer 2023) and The Rest of Our Lives by Benjamin Markovits (Booker Shortlisted 2025), but both left me with the same strange fatigue, the sense of having read something polished and completely hollow. They are not bad books; they are perfect symptoms.
