I am deeply alarmed by this morning’s explosion & partial collapse at the Mitchel Houses in the Bronx. While I’m relieved no injuries have been reported, the residents endured real fear. This incident shines light on our need for accountability, safety, and resilience in our public housing.
NEW: A 20-story chimney running along the side of a NYCHA building in The Bronx collapsed Wednesday morning, and the FDNY is investigating whether an explosion in the boiler room on the first day of heat season triggered the collapse.

To kick off #ClimateWeekNYC, I visited Sky Farm LIC, a rooftop farm that grows thousands of pounds of food and gives it all away.

Over 1,000 students have already visited this year, learning how climate action + food justice go hand in hand. Change starts right here at home.

We mourn the tragic loss of Isabel York Alvarez, killed in a reckless hit-and-run while working on the Van Wyck. No worker should lose their life on the job. Our hearts are with her loved ones & Local 731. We must prioritize worker safety on every job site.

Another family shattered by car violence in our district. A teenage girl is gone and mother is hospitalized, struck by an SUV after an argument. We need justice for Jhoanny Gomez-Alvarez. abc7ny.com/amp/post/que...

A painful reminder today: political violence has no place in our democracy. Everyone should repudiate political violence. We all deserve to live and speak our views without fear.

My deepest condolences to Charlie Kirk’s family and community.

105 Amazon workers in Maspeth were fired for organizing. That’s illegal. That’s union-busting. And we won’t stop fighting back, side by side with #amazonteamsters and #teamsterslocal804

When we fight together we win together.

For years, I stood with survivors of solitary confinement to pass the HALT Solitary Law in 2021, fighting for their dignity and safety. Yet NYSDOCCS’s failure to implement it has cost lives. Enough is enough. They must follow the law. hellgatenyc.com/report-suici...

Those of us #SeenIn13 have lived the climate crisis.

This week in Vancouver, we’re learning how British Columbia is tackling climate change while respecting workers.

NY’s climate goals must mean cleaner air and dignified, union jobs for our communities.

We has lost a dedicated community leader in Mrs. Grace Lawrence. For decades, she poured her heart into East Elmhurst & Corona, leading civic groups, strengthening our neighborhoods, and championing institutions like the Langston Hughes Library. Queens will remember her.
