In 1882, an avarna-only school was opened in Oorootambalam, Thiruvananthapuram. Ayyankali led protests and secured orders from the king to allow Dalit students’ entry. But the school management refused to comply. In 1914, he led Panchami, a Dalit girl, into this school.

His remarks about women actors and women in general, specifically targeting their choice of clothing, were misogynistic, derogatory and deeply regressive.
