For #journalist folks, who just might happen to read this post, a question:

Are you embedding #Twitter / #X posts in your stories?

And for those who know, love and support #journalists, believe in a strong #FreePress, please discourage this practice

Much has been written these past few weeks of the exodus from Twitter/X to BlueSky and other platforms. The victory of Donald Trump in the US election seems to have…

1) How do you get to know a town?

We’re big believers in walking tours. In #Athlone there’s no better man than Vincent Harney of Athlone Guided Tours

After our walk, Vincent sat down with us to talk about the Shannon River town on our latest episode

This is who they should be interviewing on the Sunday morning political shows, not the usual talking heads. That would actually be news.
Our reporters interviewed 40 of the men the Trump administration sent to a notorious prison in El Salvador: They described being beaten, sexually assaulted by guards and driven to the brink of suicide. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/08/w...

The BBC edit was unfortunate, but of course Trump fanned the flames that led to the Capitol riot. Indeed, as he watched it unfold on television, he interjected. Not to call off his supporters, but to double down on his attack on Pence. Our short doc: www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWJV...

One big lesson from Mamdani's victory:
Don't be afraid of billionaires. Make billionaires afraid of you. Take them on, don't back down.

Billionaires from Musk on down used all their tricks and failed.

Democrats are trained to lust after billionaire money, but courage has tremendous value.

It's the first Friday of the month, which means we've gone 2 months now without a jobs report. For Trump, this is a feature of the shutdown, not a bug, since private surveys show the job market slowing dramatically. But without official data he's able to keep lying about it.

Private planes make up nearly 12% of all flights.

And yet even with major air traffic control safety concerns, the DOT is planning to exclude them from its plan to order 10% cut in flights at 40 major U.S. airports.

People who can afford to charter flights will be fine. Everyone else is screwed.

Partly because so many formerly leftwing parties have turned to the right, there's a lot of confusion about what right and left mean in politics. I hope this helps:

The right defends economic power.

The left resists economic power.

I’ve been thinking a lot about a new kind of polling I’d like to see. We have polling that measures public opinion, which is obviously important, but I’d love to see a little more empirical work on public knowledge: what do voters know about politics and policy?
