He’s regressed this year and that is something to be concerned about. It’s not just him that’s regressed but he is part of it. I’m not interested in paying a QB who has shown regression. I like him a lot but we have to be real here. This year he hasn’t been that good. Very meh.

I don’t want to replace Brock Purdy but it’s a fair conversation to have about giving him a big contract after this season. The 49ers don’t have to lock themselves in and lose flexibility if things go really south with this QB. NFL teams always make this mistake at the QB position.

They did the same exact thing with Armstead. Restructured his deal then cut him the next offseason. They make these decisions with such a tunnel vision view but it hurts them in the long-term. Yet they keep doing it. They have to fix that issue.

Out of all the baffling decisions the 49ers made last offseason, restructuring Deebo’s contract before week 1 is the weirdest one. There was zero benefit to it and only makes the cap hit to cut him this upcoming offseason bigger and harder to get out of.

He definitely needs to do some soul searching. He’s still a very young HC but he’s also been at it for so long with so many scars of defeat that the conversation is worth having if the drive still in there, at least in San Francisco
