New START Treaty, the last US-Russia nuclear arms control treaty, is set to expire on 5 Feb. This will mean zero limits on arsenals that make up 87% of the world’s nuclear weapons.

On January 27, 2026, the Doomsday Clock was set at 85 seconds to midnight, the closest to midnight in history. @thebulletin.org which sets the Clock, called for urgent action to limit nuclear arsenals, create guidelines on AI, and multilateral agreements to address global biological threats.

80 yearsago, as the United Nations General Assembly first met after the war, the first resolution of the new global forum was to call for the elimination of nuclear weapons, at the time, only one nation had these weapons, now 9 nations possess nuclear weapons. #Disarmament #NuclearBan #NuclearTruth

This treaty was born from decades of global civil society activism. Today, we honour those who worked for this milestone, particularly survivors of nuclear violence.

The Treaty also obliges States Parties to provide assistance for victims of nuclear weapons and for environmental remediation. For the first time in history, nuclear weapons were forbidden under international law

On 22 January 2021, the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, the first multilateral treaty to categorically ban nuclear weapons, became international law, prohibiting their development, production, possession, use, and threat of use.

As we watch US Pres Trump attempt to suck world leaders into his "Board of Peace" we are reminded that totalitarian control manipulates truth and creates unity through hatred.
