I'm starting to post poetry, and aim to do so on a regular schedule.

Today is the anniversary of my mother's passing thirteen years ago. It felt like a good time to try something new.

Put Your Hands Together - I pray to Death as though praying for rain in a desert where I tend a wilted garden when really it is the garden to whom I must pray, the moment in which I've refused to stay. I starve my squeaking wheels of grease, so the reminders never cease. Rust, the thing is, upon metal Creeps. Leave tools in the dirt to grow old with the beets. Thirteen years and I still look at my hands, asking if Mom had known of Death's plan. I have flashbacks to her hands measuring cups of sugar and soil. Hands soon despoiled. Hands cut from their craft by violent shakes. Hands whose veins had popped into lakes. I pray to Death as if praying for rain in a storm whose winds I ceaselessly make when really it is air to whom I must pray, the gentle breath I've refused to take.
