There’s a unique bond between parents & an only child, a depth of insight & intimacy that can only come from a constant complicated isolation. They were touchstones, teachers, friends. The honor of their presence was never lost on me. They were loved and so was I. Rest well.

Merry Christmas to all the caregivers, hospice workers and hardworking hospital staff working today. You’re the real gift.

Oh man, all these Best Horror Films of 2024 lists coming out BEFORE Nosferatu? Why? You know it’s gonna fuck up your list. In fact, I’ve presumed i had my list sorted by Halloween and then two more big movies came out that really hit it out of the park. I suspect that’s gonna happen again on Xmas.

This year, I’m thankful for a Hoyer lift, Roho cushion, and wheelchair to wrangle my bedridden father out of his room to see mom for a few precious moments. Happy Thanksgiving! #sweaty

Last week at this time we were freezing our asses off playing dice games on the side of Mt. Adams. A “glamping” trip to decompress after the election and our goddaughter’s wedding. The crazy things we do for a little sanity.

We could have had a Cabinet filled with capable, competent, compassionate human beings, and instead will be subject to one populated by grifters, career criminals, and sociopaths.

This collective error is going to hurt billions of people and it was so easily prevented.

Ooh man. Cold Turkey off phone/wifi/internet in the remotest location possible, and the cabin service staff drops off a snow shovel with no accompanying explanation. Thank god for tranquilizers.

Public Libraries can be wonderful places where children and adults can find books that they can see themselves reflected in, no matter who they are, and books that can introduce them to entire other lived experiences. Both are so valuable!

Finished shopping for a potentially ill-fated November trip in the mountains. May reports of drenching rain be largely exaggerated!

Spent Saturday at Olympia Film Society watching Lamberto Bava and Dario Argento’s schlock classic Demons with a live score performed by Goblins. It was great but Suspiria…

I’m on a total news and politics embargo which really has freed up a lot of holiday baking show time. I highly suggest it.
