I don't know much, but I love tech and getting myself in a mess with it.
Wow, I am glad I saw this. It works so much better than Discover and Gnome Software on Solus and for people from Windows like me, you can still use it like a desktop app. Well done! I had tried and like Pacseek on Arch, this is comparable to that.

On my journey into Linux from Windows over the last year, I have now tried all the major DEs and WMs. Currently, still a DE guy, but like some of the WMs.
My top 5 DEs...
1. KDE
2. Gnome
3. Cosmic
4. XFCE
5. Cinnamon

Where I work I have to use Microsoft Teams. When I switched to Linux, I thought this would be an issue. It wasn't. Web version and Teams For Linux work great, even sharing screens. OnlyOffice worked best for my MS Office needs.

Turned on my old #Windows 11 laptop I used before switching to #Linux. Wanted to ensure I had all data before wiping it. It reminded me why I spent learning the Linux basics and trying a few distros and desktops. I had no nostalgia seeing Windows again. I made the right choice.

First I want to say I like CachyOS. They have done some good. People often forget to credit Arch. CachyOS for all the good they do is still over 95% Arch. Same with Mint to Ubuntu, and so on. They take a system that has been built and add their touches. Which is the beauty of it #Linux and #FOSS.

The enshittification continues. I finally had enough earlier this year. I prepared myself, planned, and made the move. After 30 years of Windows I have been on Linux for 6 months now. Some early growing pains but now I do everything from gaming to working on it.
Windows has gotten rid of online metadata for CDs. One of only useful features of Windows Media Player is gone. Literally everything just keeps worse and worse. I'm not just saying operating systems, its EVERYTHING!

Yep one of the main reasons I left Microsoft Windows. Windows is a small part of the profit for M$ users can't sway they decisions like they could back when Win 8 came out. Now it is a platform to push ads and make money off data.

Jensen can go cry with Satya. Hate to break it to you, but it is the relentless force feeding of AI Slop that is causing the damage. The relentless negativity has been well earned.

Interesting. I find Linux Mint to be one of the more bloated distros. I also find it to be a bit slower due to the older kernel, but not bad. Customization wise, it is solid and good enough, but far less useful plugins than Gnome & fewer options than Plasma. It is stable and a good distro.

In my Linux hopping one unexpected standout was Solus. I expected things like NixOS. Solus was different in that in ways like Linux Mint, it just worked. Unlike Mint it is independent & rolling. With the added bonus of no Cinnamon. Just a great boring distro with good DEs. I mean that in a good way!

Best:
1. Debian: True community, not much elitism
2. Solus: Small, but welcoming. Even the devs get in there and help
3. Linux Mint: Not the best at helping, but friendly
2+ years of distro hopping taught me a lot about good/bad communities in Linux. All have good and bad; some just have more.
Worst:
1. Arch: Elitist gatekeepers, even if you RTFM
2. Ubuntu: Elitist, while often blind, leading the blind
3. NixOS: Spent more time proselytizing than helping

Microsoft and Mozilla have to both be the worst companies at reading the room on AI. The only difference is that despite failing upwards, Microsoft has a huge amount of capital to fall back on, while Mozilla is funded by Google.

It is sad as we need more viable alternatives on Linux to Chromium.
