The shutdown of SNAP benefits shows the fragility of our industrial food system. It ALSO shows us the strength of community. The resource sharing, mutual aid, and collective care we’ve seen in the last week are glimpses into the food future we are capable of building together! 🤝 🤝

Ever had masa? If you like tamales, tortillas, or pupusas, the answer is likely yes 🙂‍↕️

This traditional corn dough is packed with bioavailable nutrients thanks to a process called nixtamalization, and it’s the base for most of the Mesoamerican dishes we know and love. 🫔 🌽

After a long trade tribunal with the US, #Mexico enshrined a ban on #GMO corn cultivation in its constitution earlier this year. As the birthplace of corn, this move runs deeper than policy: it's a defense of culture and identity.

Have you heard of "super weeds"?

The introduction of GMO crops has dramatically increased the use of herbicides like glyphosate (aka Roundup) in the US.

Today, more than 60 million acres (!!) of US farmland are infested with herbicide-resistant super weeds that evolved in response.
