I loved visiting Hampton Court Palace last August and I fell so in love with its history that I needed to know more. The Palace by Gareth Russell is a captivating and fascinating account and I couldn't put it down!

#OnThisDay in 1815, Jane Austen’s 'Emma', a novel about “a heroine whom no one but myself will much like”, was an instant hit. It was published in three volumes, each set costing one guinea.

Persuasion was published on this day in 1817. Making it 208 years of every other love letter not being good enough.

Jane Austen was born 250 years ago today ✨

Our new display, Dancing with Austen, explores how dance shaped her social world and drove the plots of her novels.

Now on display at the Weston Library.

I’ve just finished rereading Northanger Abbey, which, together with Persuasion, is my second favourite of Jane Austen’s novels, but Pride and Prejudice will always be my number one!

On 30th Oct 1811 Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen was published.
Austen had started writing her novel 16 years earlier in 1795 while living in Steventon, Hampshire. The Overton Jane Austen trails cross the beautiful country to her birthplace and home for 25 years at Steventon

It is a truth universally acknowledged that the Pride and Prejudice first edition facsimile is stunning - and also out TODAY! Read Darcy and Elizabeth's story as the first ever readers would have in 1813.
