Fascinating to find colonies of #coral species thriving on a historically hypoxic reef tolerate severe low oxygen events much better than their counterparts on nearby reefs. Our paper explains the potential for these findings to guide coral conservation efforts. doi.org/10.3390/ocea...
Locally Adapted Coral Species Withstand a 2-Week Hypoxic Event
One approach to improve long-term coral restoration success utilizes naturally stress-tolerant corals from the wild. While the focus has primarily been on thermal stress, low oxygen is a growing threa...

For my first post- a new paper showing how tiny blips of nightly low oxygen - just 6 hours at a time- may have the potential to shape coral reef communities, leading to less diverse, lawn-like states!

Coral Community Composition Linked to Hypoxia Exposure
Written Summary: Warming and decreasing oxygen physiologically stress tropical corals, but evidence of how these stressors impact coral community composition remain circumstantial. We find the durati....
