Is anyone surprised by this? Cancelled 10 days before the conference. This was a conference typically attended by several hundred people. I was a speaker in a couple of breakout sessions in 2020 and earlier. I imagine many people bought nonrefundable tickets.

Worth reading. DJT is costing us friends. Maybe he doesn’t care because he never had any friends himself.

Now suicide prevention efforts are targeted by the new Administration. Does anyone think think this is a good idea? (Not asking rhetorically — does anyone think this is good for the country?)

Does anyone know if Mr. Musk will be subject to drug testing in his new position as a Federal employee? It’s a standard thing. Or is that one of the regulations that will be eliminated? If so, will it be eliminated throughout the whole Federal government or just for him? Not a rhetorical question.

If you know anyone who is foreign-born with US-born kids then now would be a good time to remind them to submit an application for a US passport for their kids. Actually, last year would have been a better time, but now is probably still better than later.

I’ve removed my retirement funds from the Federal Thrift Savings Plan and put them into Vanguard and TIAA IRAs. I recommend that others over 59.5 or retired do this too. There’s no reason to keep your money where future distributions or withdrawals could be constrained by future Executive Orders.

#5 This isn’t the most important issue facing the nation (not even close), but it shouldn’t be of zero interest if agencies hope to attract people who are already well paid to work for the Federal Government.

#4 The total amount of pay from 2010 to 2024 that was less than inflationary growth totaled about $155,000. That’s an average of about $10,000 a year for 15 years.
To have kept pace with inflation the annual raise would have been about 2.2% every year, but the actual was about 1.5% per year.
