The Santa Fe New Mexican gives a deep dive into the HHHS Committee hearing on HB99 yesterday. While we feel that this bill is flawed, we appreciate the work that went into the amendment that was added which will protect individual doctors while holding large corporate hospitals accountable.

Tomorrow morning, patients, survivors, and families whose lives have been forever changed by medical malpractice will be at the New Mexico State Capitol to share their stories and speak out against HB99.
We are hosting a press conference at noon. Join us and listen to patient stories!

Who benefits. Harm reduction. Outcomes.

HB99 - NMSOP WHO Test: FAILED ❌

This bill does two things that hurt patients: it caps punitive damages and ends single payments (also disrespectfully referred to as "lump sum") that allows harmed patients to control their future medical care. #nmleg #nmpol

NMSOP supports evidence based and data driven solutions that increase the number of providers and also reduce harm to patients, all while holding corporations and insurance companies accountable. We have put together a formula for assessing proposed legislation called WHO. #nmleg #nmpol

Republican legislators voted against HB68, a healthcare recruitment program. They want to protect big insurance companies and privatized healthcare, instead of investing in keeping UNM medical residents in New Mexico after they graduate. Thank you to those who voted in support and got HB68 passed!

A new ABQ Journal article reports that the debate over the number of practicing physicians has a lack of conclusive data. The so-called “patient-led” groups providing the data are backed by big insurance and corporate hospitals, focused on spreading misinformation and avoiding actual solutions.

Corporations are spending millions to make you believe victims and lawyers are the problem, instead of spending to fix the system that is harming patients in the first place. Here at NMSOP we always disclose our donors, even though we are not required to.

Holding corporations and big insurance companies accountable.

Corporate hospitals and insurers are spending millions in New Mexico to change our laws and limit access to justice.

Transparency matters. Follow the money. Ask who benefits. Demand healthcare reforms that truly serve New Mexico.

We have to protect the lives of children in New Mexico.

The Santa Fe New Mexican highlights how dangerous it can be when corporate hospitals put numbers before infants. We need to start being honest with ourselves about who benefits from this narrative - it clearly isn't families in New Mexico.

A little bit louder for those in the back.

We don’t just call out what’s broken. We’re pushing for real, achievable solutions that protect communities and prevent future harm.

New Year. Same Mission at NM Safety Over Profit.

New Mexicans should not have to choose between seeing a doctor and being safe in their care. We can, and must, do both. We'll see you at the Roundhouse to advocate for survivors and for all New Mexicans.
