New Substack post - but a much lighter topic this time: a day trip to Lyme Regis in Dorset. Austen, Anning and Ammonites. But sadly I didn’t spot Captain Wentworth on the Cobb this time, either. 😜

Another adult amateur author’s attempts at apt, acute, appropriate and adequate alliteration. (Assisting AIs are absolutely anathema.) Alliterations are actually always an astonishingly amusing art. Adversarial attitudes are not accepted. Aloha and adieu! #AlphabetChallenge #writingcommunity

Btw I finally figured out what to call a post on BlueSky: If a Twitter post is a tweet, then surely a BlueSky post is a bleat! 🐑😜

“I think there’s an inherent misogyny around it. A lot of the time, the sorts of things that women like across arts and culture tends to get discounted.”

Went to the beach to finish a chapter - done. Then entered a flow state where 2,200 words just happened. Unfortunately 3 hours also happened. And now I’m done. Well done, that is.

Note to self: From now on the sunscreen lives next to the the iPad.

Bitterly cold polar winds today, but oh my god, the air quality!! If you’re in the UK, get yourself outdoors and breathe it in - if smells like childhood. Even London has amazing air quality today: www.iqair.com/gb/uk/englan...

Oh the joys of finally recovering from the flu only to be forced to work with colleagues who insist on coming to work while still contagious… 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I’m going abroad in a week, can’t risk getting ill again now!
January 4, 2025 at 5:50 PM
Finally went back to work despite still not being completely well - only to discover that my colleague had called in sick with the same lurgy I had. Instead of an easy return to work, I ended up doing twice as much as normal. Exhausted now. Next time I’m not going back until I’m in rude health!

My friend just lost access to her #goodreads account; a particularly horrific and cruel twist of fate. Have now spent 2h backing up all my books and reviews as html pages - with 15 folders full of the 1488 cover photos. Thank goodness for Dropbox!

Meanwhile, I’m still stuck at home, too unwell to do anything remotely sensible. Basically, today will be deemed a success if I can find the energy to do a load of laundry.

Had to call in sick today, and realised how much I’d like to be at work. Lucky to have a job I love with so many wonderful colleagues. Statistics say 85% of people hate their jobs.

After watching #theinkblackheart on BBC I reckon #tomburke is the new #colinfirth - in the sense that he can say more with one look in his eyes than most actors can with a 3000-word monologue. And #hollidaygrainger is sublime as always. Can’t wait to see where their on screen relationship will go!

Have now pulled back due to excessive coughing and sneezing. It is NOT the most wonderful time of the year… #christmasflu
December 25, 2024 at 7:20 PM
Have never been this ill over Christmas before. Cold compresses, ibuprofen, lots of fluids and old episodes of Strike is the order of the day. 🤧

I think Santa misheard me - I definitely did NOT say “all I want for Christmas is flu”! 🤧

Just survived a trip to Waitrose. I only got there because instead of queueing around the entire car park I went against the one-way for about 12 yards and parked in one of the 7 free spaces there. Feel a bit guilty, but this flu is horrendous and I was out of painkillers, snot rags and lozenges!
