A very readable novel set in the aftermath of WW1 about the effects on woman. We follow 3 very different females through a week in 1920. 💙📚

A tragic, and funny, story. The narrator, Lampo, has a great voice. Lots of swearing, and lots of Euripides. 💙📚

What an excellent book! Absorbing writing about the family. I loved how Fowler ensured that John Wilkes was not the centre of it all. Should have been on the Booker shortlist that year.

Whilst not as good as Any Human Heart or Sweet Caress, Boyd’s The Romantic is a good read. An interesting character. 💙📚

This is my second Elif Shafak book- the first made me visit the trees in my garden and give more care to my fig tree. This book I really loved. It’s brutal but poetic. Her writing is beautiful. It would have been a better Booker winner in 2022 than Seven Moons- which I really disliked. 💙📚

Having finished this book, I did actually like it. The 832 pages seemed quite daunting to start with, along with the first third of it being very ‘boaty’. But, Darwin’s conversations with Fitzroy are really interesting, and I’m left thinking a lot about these two very flawed, very obsessive men. 💙📚
