The MAGNUS scanner's system is compatible with new silent scanning methods developed by Professor Steve Williams' team in collaboration with GE HealthCare, supported by the NIHR Maudsley BRC.

“Mania is what defines bipolar disorder, yet it has remained surprisingly difficult to study in its own right. Our research on the genetics of mania gives us a clearer picture of its biology and how it differs from other psychiatric conditions. In the longer term, this could help clinicians recognise bipolar disorder earlier, reduce the long delays many patients face before receiving a diagnosis, and improve outcomes through more targeted treatment.”

Results from a large clinical trial, from IoPPN, @nihrmaudsleybrc.bsky.social, @unisouthampton.bsky.social, finds a trigeminal nerve stimulation device approved by the US FDA in 2019, is not an effective tool in reducing symptoms of #ADHD

“Our study shows how important it is to design an appropriate placebo condition in clinical trials of brain therapies. There is a large placebo effect with high-tech brain therapies, in particular for patients and families that have an expectation that they can adjust brain differences associated with ADHD.”
