This term is so social media-brained. Coined by people who can't imagine themselves without an audience, or that anyone could genuinely want to pass time in any other form than Stare at Phone
Oh fuck off

Today @TheNewYorker released our short documentary “Rovina’s Choice” online.

It traces the ongoing effects of the sudden shutdown of US foreign aid through the story of one mother in Kenya as she seeks to save her daughter from sickness and starvation. 🎥 1/ www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

I think protein supplementation might become even more important with glipination, ideally in an easy to consume form because otherwise the risk of not consuming enough may increase fast. Hopefully an area that will get some research attention

Berlin’s monthly ticket to take you bike with you on public transport is 17 Euros.
And bike+public transport is a superpower
i recently got a great deal on a barely used folding ebike and i have to say it has revolutionized my train travel. i can get from my front door to the amtrak station in a little less than 5 minutes!!!

The Turing test misunderstands human nature and overvalues human judgement. We are not difficult to trick,
we are built to assume consciousness: we are animist at heart and it is very cool.
We should just be very careful when building tools that leverage this otherwise sweet weakness of us
the popularity of the turing test as a concept has ruined people's ability to understand what sentience is. a machine that can trick you in to thinking it's human isnt intelligent just because you fell for it. do you think the raptor puppets from jurassic park are sentient? seemed pretty real to me.

Growing up I thought evil in fantasy was exaggerated and metaphorical, that in real life I would have had to read between the lines to find my moral compass.
Well if I haven’t just watch an Uruk Hai Press Conference

The incredible circular logic of
-why are you so upset about *insert international illegal thing US administration is doing*?
-because if there are no rules there are no rules, it could happen to anyone anywhere. Why not us?
-don’t be ridiculous, that’s illegal

The left is/fights for the underrepresented. When the mainstream joins it’ll always be too late and after too much suffering. How to let go of some grudges while remaining vigilant, keep fighting and still celebrate is a challenge, this is what the Kleins get right.
But man they misread reality atm

Some people here love to dismiss ‘sportsball’ but S. African teams being banned from international competition was an important factor in ending Apartheid because it made their crimes real for non-political folk.
It appears that there is an increasingly high chance Israel will be banned next week from UEFA due to its genocide in Gaza, which would in turn effectively end its hopes of qualifying for the World Cup.

I have heard this independently confirmed from another source.

The flaw behind every health quackery is eugenic thinking.
A gross misunderstanding of how evolution and biology function, that leads to fantasies of a glorious natural past. Just need to remove the new things/somepeople from the mix and we will be strong again.
It’s bound to be stupid or violent

Have dialysis nephrologists nothing better to do these days than annoying OP?!
I have accepted that I have haters, including people annoyed by the water drinking reminders, and I don't have the time or energy to care about them anymore.
this is something you just have to live with if you are even barely well-known online; people make up elaborate stories about you in their heads. it will always happen and you cannot give a shit about it, only stomp on it if they try to spread these weird tales to anybody you actually know.

Today, the UN officially designated Israel’s assault on Gaza as a genocide.

As a party to the Genocide Convention, the U.S. has a legal obligation to obey our own laws, stop weapons sales to Israel, and demand a permanent ceasefire.

End the genocide. Ceasefire now.

Big discussion in the Endo and Nephro Team today,so here as well: recurring hypovolemic hyponatriemia (<120), no SIADH. Do you consider stopping the SGLT2?
It clearly depends on the situation, but is it on your list of suspects, like in general?Or is it the last thing you would do? #nephSky #medSky

Wealth and power are fake social structures and no one is more invested in maintaining them than people that were randomly elevated to fame, power and wealth.
Rich and influential mediocre men are always the backbone of these movements, reasons may vary
I don't think it was a financial decision at all. It was all about having power over other human beings, especially their own workers and servants, and MeToo, BLM and 3% unemployment all were huge threats to that power.
Last week someone made this point, a lot of money people (including tech) made a very clear, very calculated decision that authoritarianism, even a corrupt kleptocracy, was better for them financially than risking Dems doing a wealth tax/tax fairness etc. It was an eyes-wide-open choice.

Someone should keep track of who is writing in support of genocide.
But answer them is useless, there are no morals, no other aims other than workshopping propaganda: they just try everything and see what sticks.
We should post the starving children and how to help them

Opinions and takes must also always be put into context. Peer review has its problems? Sure.
At a time when everything Academia is under attack, that is what you want to talk about? Nate is, at best, a tool
Nate Silver thinks academic journals are a lost cause.

But they aren't. If anything, the real problem is that these journals are *too* profitable.

Which means no one bothers to dream up other ideas, only variations on the theme.
