Food systems work perfectly...

...for the handful of multinational corporations who control them, that is 😱

We need to focus less on profit, and more on people and planet.

To achieve this we need government action and strong social movements, says @stuartgillespie.bsky.social

What would it take to transform the global food system?

Coinciding with #UNFSS2025 we’re sharing a series of videos from @foodequitycentre.bsky.social hosted by IDS.

For @philbakernz.bsky.social redistribution of resources to enable more households to access healthy food is the key.

Food systems are unfair, often built on legacies of colonialism. We need improved policies to support people marginalised in food systems, especially those working in fields, factories & hospitality.

@deewoods.bsky.social explains how food systems can be changed.

We need to move away from food systems which encourage overconsumption and overproduction, says IDS researcher Lidia Cabral from @foodequitycentre.bsky.social

As citizens, how can we reassess our relationship with food to help achieve this change?

Did last month's #UNFSS conference focus too much on investment for food, and not enough on rights and accountability?

Hunger is a crime in South Africa. Who are the criminals?

Stephen Devereux of the Food Equity Centre and Mark Heywood identify the accused as the state, supermarkets and privately owned corporate food producers ⬇️

#WorldFoodDay
Only with united citizen action can the promise of World Food Day be achieved in South Africa, a country with more food than it needs, and more hungry people than is morally or constitutionally acceptable.
