With friends like Bo Nix’s got, who needs enemies?

“I have a buddy on the team and we tell each other, ‘You’re still a nobody, you haven’t done anything yet.’ … He’s right. We have a lot to prove.”

When Freddie Wittingham was trying to convince hooper Caleb Lohner and his family to take a chance on football at Utah, he built a slide deck illustrating Jimmy Graham’s hardwood-to-NFL path.

In RJ Harvey, the Broncos saw an RB with “maybe the best vision in the draft.” In Pat Bryant, coach Sean Payton landed a WR who “reminded me of Mike Thomas.” In Sai’vion Jones, they saw an ascending D-lineman w/versatility.

The Broncos insisted they were fond of the idea of adding to their strengths through the NFL Draft. So when the chance to pair one of the most versatile defensive prospects in the class to the NFL’s best corner, Jahdae Brown was “too unique to pass up” www.nytimes.com/athletic/630...

In my final Broncos mock draft before the real thing starts Thursday, I considered multiple scenarios with the first-round pick.

Some threaded thoughts from pre-draft news conference with Broncos brass:

• Clear RB is a first-round consideration, especially with Payton saying class is light on true 1st-round grades overall. So may not be losing much of an opportunity cost by choosing RB at 20 instead of premium position.

Sam Franklin’s lone career INT was a 99-yard pick-six off Kirk Cousins, but he’s made his living in the NFL as a special teams mainstay. Played 84% of the Panthers’ snaps in that phase last season. Another key piece for Darren Rizzi.

Pretty bullish on a Year 2 jump for Troy Franklin. He was a consistent route winner and was a target of more deep passes than any Broncos player besides Courtland Sutton. His role in Payton’s offense takes time to master. A lot of opportunities to be had if he can sharpen details.
