Always treat everyone with dignity and respect, especially when working with kids

As a coach/teacher, it is your job to set the example. To keep a level head. Unload later.

Now is the time for you to be the person you want them to be. And that never ends.

Do your best

Always have to remember to explain things to kids like they’re kids

You can work with an athlete for years, they can be understanding of every complex thing possible in the sport and a fantastic athlete

But they’re still a kid. It’s okay if they do multiple things, it’s okay to skip practice

First proper HS meet of the season on Saturday, so excited!

Tons of expectations but also need to remind them that they are there to try their best and to have fun!

Had our first “meet” of the HS season this Saturday, and got tons of valuable information!

Always remember that progress is a journey. You have to start somewhere, even if it’s not where you would prefer

Accept what it is and where you’re at, it’ll make it easier to identify how to move forward

Responsibility is a very easy thing to overlook as a coach. Once athletes hit a certain age, they are expected to act that age.

Nothing will harm a child’s development more than abdication of responsibility, a lack of consequences for it, and a parents unwillingness to accept that

Moving on to HS season has been a very interesting transition

They’re able to understand more complex sets and ideas, so it leads to a very different training environment than Age Groupers (I coach 7th & 8th graders)

First meet of the season is this weekend for club

Very excited to see how the kids are developing. Having a bunch of them trying new events (which they do not seem too thrilled about)

Trying to develop well rounded athletes means breaking them out of their comfort zones every now and again

As swim season begins, it’s important to remember that these kids have a million things going on

You have to be accommodating but also hold them accountable. Understand they have things going on they committed to, but that they also made a commitment to your program
