The Romanian and French poet Benjamin Fondane was #BOTD in 1898 and killed in the gas chamber at Auschwitz in October 1944, soon after his arrest in France. His long poem “Exodus” is a lament for those crushed by the boot of history. (Trans. Henry King and Andrew Rubens.)
