The project was also highlighted by Interreg Europe as a best-practice project for other jurisdictions to follow. What else can Toronto learn from Amsterdam? Read my blog post here:

The IJtram opened BEFORE most of the buildings were completed on the island, building in transit ridership from day one. Trams even operated through construction sites! Read more: nicholasphilipson.com/blog/for-tor...

Twenty years ago, Amsterdam constructed IJburg, a land reclamation development built from the ground up centred around a new tram line. Toronto is currently building a similar project, centred around a tram line... except it won't be the same. Read more: nicholasphilipson.com/blog/for-tor...

Change is happening. Electrification must be next. That was a promise Metrolinx made to my parents and the people of Davenport when they laid out the plans for increased service. It’s also a promise that gov’t will actually take this crisis seriously. Do not let value engineering take this away
In just 2024, Toronto has introduced:

- fare integration across regional & local transit
- massive off-peak service increases across the network: 15-30 min headways, 6 lines with all-day service
- rebuilt stations, contactless payment, & more

… and this is just the beginning!

In the small time frame I have been doing research using spatial data, generally I have found it easier to get data in Montréal/Quebec than for Toronto. More report publications are also easily accessible. I wonder if there are other provincial differences.
