In Godot 3 there is no decal node yet, so I used a shader named Decalco from Master J, with a little customization on the alpha channel to add blood detail to the character's surface.

One detail of facial expressions is that the eyes always lock onto an object. When the head turns, the eyes will quickly shift focus or blink to ignore it.
