Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985) - Can this franchise have an original thought? Probably not.

A ★ review of Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985)
For a film with the subtitle A New Beginning, the fifth installment in the Friday the 13th franchise does little new with the concept or with the slasher genre.  Repetition is one of this franchises p...

The Nowhere Place by: Nicholas Briggs: Nick Briggs actually has a penchant for cosmic horror because while the ending of this one is nothing special, the vibes are just about everything. It hits that very weird atmosphere perfect for a nihilistic dread while the entire setting switch about halfway

Code 3 (2025) - Would be better in the hands of a director with vision.

Alright negatives out of the way: the cinematography is that terrible made for streaming looks worse than television, tonally the entire film is inconsistent and the comedy often does not land; Rainn ...

Bullet Train (2022) - Best when it’s going full screwball.

A ★★★½ review of Bullet Train (2022)
There’s a lot of fun with what David Leitch is doing with Bullet Train.  There are some sequences that border on some excellent screwball comedy, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Brian Tyree Henry are a fun d...

Dooku Captured (1.11) - Star Wars is the only of the big three nerd sci fi franchises to always nail space pirates. This also has some great Anakin and Obi-Wan banter, plus Corey Burton is way too close to Christopher Lee. Hondo Ohnaka is also another very fun example of a space pirate done well.

Lair of Greivous (1.10) - Love that this one is completely unrelated to the tentpole characters of the series, Kit Fisto outside of being a stupid Star Wars name is a very fun protagonist and it’s nice to have a Padawan turned Knight fall to the Dark Side. Downside is alien Newt Gingrich is still

Okay Gail I’ll play along with your monsters and the consequences of people’s actions. I’m just glad Uncanny X-Men is back to a twice monthly schedule.

God Garth Ennis is one of those writers who sometimes is brilliant but then will slip in something that just makes you hate him.

Moonrise Kingdom (2012) - Hot take: One of Anderson’s best and in may ways a departure from his usual style.

A ★★★★★ review of Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
Moonrise Kingdom is a beautiful film exploring so much of the folly of youth and young love and like Wes Anderson’s other masterpieces the folly of being human.  There’s this special connection that I...

Cloak of Darkness (1.9) - If I didn’t know going in that this was written by Paul Dini, I still would have picked up on the man’s incredibly sharp dialogue, something he is a master at. It’s definitely a middle part and alien Newt Gingrich is still here so that’s a bit of an annoyance but I do love

Bombad Jedi (1.8) - That was fine. Jar Jar is less insufferable and the premise of pretending to be a Jedi is good, but honestly there’s some odd pacing things with this episode in terms of the dialogue. Nice focus on Padme and I’m always up for spotlighting Anthony Daniels. 5/10.

Duel of the Droids (1.7) - That was a bit of a let down. It feels kind of undercutting Anakin to basically have it revealed he was right not to trust R3 because he’s working for Grevious. It is very this is a kids show and here’s an obvious reveal for the episode but I was kind of hoping it’d
