I never fully appreciated what a very stable finance genius DJT is. If he tanks the market with a tariff war, dollar cost averaging investments go to infinity as the market approaches zero. Brilliant!

FYI for those of you trying to reach Sen. Dave McCormick, his DC mailbox is still full, but the Harrisburg number is accepting voicemails. 717-231-7540. Keep it to 30 seconds or under.

It's a shame that all of the federal employees being called back after their immoral/illegal firings can't afford to tell Trump to go f*ck himself. And then when something goes wrong because of those vacancies, affix a big "Trump Did This" sticker to the metaphorical gas pump for everyone to see.

Beautiful day in Philadelphia to stand against fascism and attacks on science and human well being

By all means though, let's build more warships. Who needs strong biomedical R&D to power our economy and improve our lives?

It's important to point out that many of these small businesses are SDVOSB: Service disabled Veteran owned small businesses. These Vets put their lives on the line for us, only for Trump and Co. to spit in their faces.
Just heard from a friend who is a true hero veteran. His company was destroyed in 30 days by the VA when they canceled 5 contracts without notice. 23 Americans mostly veterans out of work and a veteran owned small business destroyed. For nothing. They're dismantling the VA not "reforming" it.

True MAGA Patriots don't use technology or medicine developed with federal funds by the liberal elite.

We risk losing a generation of students, scientists, and biomedical progress to this dangerous anti-science administration.

I’ll keep pushing this line of analysis because I’m increasingly convinced the clearest path out of this mess is for Dems to adopt a relentless anti-corruption, anti-inequality, anti-oligarchy, pro-democracy platform. The Dem leadership hasn’t realized it yet, but they’re now a reform party.
How many federal workers would DOGE need to fire to make up for Musk not paying his fair share of taxes?

Answer: 677,000. That's 44% of the entire non-DoD federal workforce.

Again, this power grab is not about the budget. It’s about politics.

Cuts to NSF expected to be at 50% reduction in force for an independent agency that fuels discovery and innovation.

"The NSF budget was $9B, or 0.13% of the total [budget]."

This is not about fiscal prudence. This is about killing universities.

A great illustration of the damage done to the American R&D and economic engine by indiscriminate firing of government personnel in scientific roles.

"Save" $1B in American investment now, cost our economy multiple billions in productivity.

Poignant analysis from @cleantechnica.bsky.social:
"During the Revolutionary War, American colonists fought and died to get out from under the yoke of King George III. Now we are back to square one with a new tyrant who is demanding unswerving loyalty and styling himself as the new king."
How The West Was Lost - CleanTechnica
What we used to think of as "The West" and Western thought is under attack and being pushed back all around the world, especially in America.

Most people in the US have no idea about the attacks on federally funded science or our government institutions. Many (or most!) of your family, coworkers, neighbors, and friends have no idea. My own MAGA dad thinks DOGE is just identifying waste, and that nothing has been cut. We have to tell them.

I hate to make our nation more divisive, but if you are the PI of a biomedical research lab and a Trump supporter, you should voluntarily give up your government funding to another PI who cares about our nation and the health of our citizens.

This is a great way to reduce our R&D competitiveness on the global stage. Biomedical research is one thing America was Great at, losing this support to train students, retain support staff and keep facilities running will change things.
Executive wants to frame the NIH indirects cut as $4B in savings.

But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.
Direct Economic Contributions
NIH directly supports the economy through investments in research institutions and job formation.
