The first book of my #isekai series Memes of the Prophets is available on Amazon, DriveThruFiction, and Lulu. It mixes commentary on Big Ideas, fantasy worldbuilding, and comedy into a strange tale of a catgirl trying to find her way in an Earth-obsessed world.

I found another superhero-related novel I'm looking forward to reading: What They Did to Princess Paragon by Robert Rodi is about what happens when an up-and-coming comic writer is trying to revamp a classic character and makes her lesbian, to the chagrin of some truly obsessive fans.

Superhero research led me to start on Michael Chabon's The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, historical fiction about two Jewish cousins who make comics during the Golden Age. Most of the novels I've read for this project have been fun but trashy, whereas this feels like real literature.

2025 had to get one last piece of awfulness in, since my dad was hospitalized last night. It looks like he's gonna be okay (he's going to be getting a pacemaker), but we did not need this.

I can’t speak for all indie TTRPG designers, but for me it’s always been “I hope this helps you get where you want to go.” I have no idea why someone felt the need to invent an insulting motive.
I regret to inform you that basically all games have incentive structures.

Generally, if an object of play doesn't have incentive structures, it's a toy.

Browsing for something to watch on my Apple TV and realizing that I kinda hate how most tech these days is constantly trying to put a finger on the scale. Apple's tvOS is plastered with Apple TV+ stuff, and yet it's mild compared to Roku and especially FireTV.

In Xeroverse Book 2, Xero finds out that the in-universe equivalent of Joe Rogan went on an unhinged rant about him, and I'm kinda glad Rogan has never heard of me.

To make it especially unsubtle, I have Joe Average do his show in an SUV, and he always wears sunglasses to hide his empty eye sockets

All this obsessing over superhero stuff and somehow I forgot about Boots Riley's I'm a Virgo, which features a 13-foot-tall guy, a speedster fry cook, and a mentally unstable billionaire in a power suit.

Wish I was feeling as good about literally anything else in my life as I am about how my writing is going.

It occurs to me that "the problems are bad but their causes are very good" sums up kind of a lot of US policy in general.

As a gift to myself, I got bootlegs of On the Air (1992) and Hotel Room (1993), some of the very few David Lynch things I haven't seen yet.

My roommate gave me a nice tea sampler for Christmas, and I realized I should wait to really get into it, because with this cold I barely have a sense of smell.

The writing in Dragon Ball Super is mixed, but I do like the juxtaposition of weird aliens obsessed with love and shooting heart-shaped energy blasts with Android 18's genuine, mature love for her husband Krillin.

In Xeroverse Book 3 I had Killfille (my Deadpool knockoff) write my author bio, and it's really stupid but I like how he said that it's probably not worth checking Fremont, CA out because they're probably out of the free mountains by now.

It's 2:30 AM on Christmas Eve and I'm thinking again about that time Kickstarter was going to go "on the blockchain" and everyone was like "what do you mean by that" and we never found out because nobody mentioned it again.

How's your Christmas Eve going?

I'm:
• Still not over this cold, but on the mend
• Watching the @rifftrax.com of the Star Wars Holiday Special
• Waiting for Chinese food to arrive

I have a thing that no one cares about where any time someone unironically calls something "based," you can get a more accurate picture by replacing it with "stupid."

e.g.: Feeling extra stupid today, might regret it later, but it feels so good 🔫🦾😎

In the second Xeroverse book there's a whole thing with how they brought their patriotic hero back at great expense to help shore up a tentpole superhero movie and I'm not sure I want this project to be the one where I get the Gift of Prophecy.

Trying to think of superhero stuff I haven't seen that might be relevant to Xeroverse, and not coming up with much. I'm currently watching Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and not expecting much.

Looks like this cold isn't going to let up before Christmas, so this year I'll be spending Christmas resting up and making bad culinary choices.

I had the thought that instead of getting a Steam Machine I could convert my current desktop into a couch gaming PC, maybe with a gaming-oriented Linux build, and get another desktop for general use. I need *some* power, but I'm not really into resource-intensive AAA games.
