I'm again, in #Warsaw #Poland till the end of December!

Ping me to meet up for a chat if you're into:
- #cryptography
- #FOSS
- #decentralization and #p2p

Etc.

My dream? To create a new democratic web where people are citizens. I also like weird art and weird projects in general.

I'm going to #Catania in #Sicily for two weeks.

Are there geeks to meet up with there?

I'm into decentralization and cryptography and math - but really, any geeky topic is interesting for me; I simply like to meet new people:)

I translated to English a mythological Hebrew caricature. It describes perfectly my feeling in the last few years.

Need to find out where can I print a t-shirt with it in #warsaw

Published: The CDP Conjecture - Limits of a Perfect Proof of Personhood

It's about the limitations of PoP (Proof of Personhood). Can you have a PoP that is:
🔸 complete,
🔸 decentralized and
🔸 privacy-preserving?

I'm quite happy with how this article turned out.

SO I'm, very unplanned, got "stuck" in #amsterdam for a few days.

Any recommendations? Or fellow geeks in the city that want to meetup and chat about #dweb, #foss, or digital identities?

I loved Red Team Blues by Cory Doctorow! Recommended as a short (213 pages), page-turner, smart book.

The hero is a crime fighting silicon valley accountant, I kid you not. Expect lots of explanations about how the financial crimes of the rich work.

Book #2 is already out! #3 is coming up soon.

The Internet Archive at large is a treasure in its own right, but it was after an evening of diving deep into their software emulation library that I finally kicked $50 their way for the first time last year.

It's one of the most remarkable historical resources on the Internet.
Few things more inspiring than the TRS-80 MC-10 software emulation library at @archive.org - over 800 programs, some rather recently written, trying to squeeze every glowing drop of potential fun and old-style computer joy out of a powerless computer system.

Just published: The Immutable Badge

"Imagine an immutable, hidden badge is attached to you.

You cannot remove, transfer, or modify it.

However, no one can see it without your knowledge and consent."

This is the ultimate biometric identifier.

Just published - Duopsism 🎉

A person is sitting in a dark room. There's nothing there besides a programmable black box.

What can he deduct about himself? the world?

A whimsical thought experiment for the holiday season in the spirit of Descartes and Mary's Room.

Proof of Personhood (PoP) is an identifier that:

(1) Belongs to a human
(2) Each human has only one identifier

It's useful for online voting, spam protection, & social media governance.

A perfect PoP would be decentralized, privacy-preserving, and complete – but such a system doesn't exist yet.

My talk about The Democratic Web from #hcpp24 is now online!

I'm a bit afraid to watch it, since I feel I could have done better. But I got plenty of feedback afterward, so there must have been some good bits.

A new Safecat release!

V0.0.6 - The Proof System

It adds a proof system to Safecat. If the previous release was about generating signed certificates, this one is about privately proving claims using these certificates.

Corry Doctorow on why he'll never join #bluesky

Since they can shut down your account at will, and do have the power to make it worse for their users, they will do it in the future if investors demand, even if the present intentions are good.

Riv is an on-chain fantasy console allowing recorded game plays to be verified by blockchain smart contracts.

How do they prevent cheating? What stops a person from fabricating an optimal gameplay?

Unless it's a turn-based one-play strategy game, of course. But that's a rare end-case.

Over the last few months I've received some questions about how I view the wider "decentralized social media" ecosystem outside of Bluesky. I wrote something about that here: www.techdirt.com/2024/10/29/s...
Some (Slightly Biased) Thoughts On The State Of Decentralized Social Media
Last week, Bluesky, where I am on the board (so feel free to consider this as biased as can be), announced that it had raised a $15 million seed round, and with it announced some plans for building…

A great blog post about Einstein tiling that's making me jealous.

The author has taken the time and care to produce an excellent read.

Highly recommended, especially for those new to Einstein's aperiodic tiling. It also covers the history of tiling.

There are currently only 2 people registered in The United Web forum. I'm honestly curious if I'll manage to get at least a third one to do it before the end of the week.

I just published a description of Woolball Phase I. The main ideas:

1. Two separate name spaces, for humans and for artificial entities (organizations, AIs..).

2. Registering a human name requires a zk proof-of-humanity.

I'm looking for feedback!
