this is basically my theory as well. a large constituency of the elites wants a like 15-25% shift rightward. the american right are fucking lunatics who want 300%.
The elite class has been itching for a right wing vibe shift to put black people, trans people, etc back in its place. The right wing we have doesn’t have the finesse to pull it off. Their behavior guarantees thermostatic backlash

Pretty much every great Japanese filmmaker - sans Miyazaki and Kurosawa I suppose - are always like "hey, this country kind of sucks!" but one thing I love about Oshima is how upfront about how perverted Japan is and he's always like "hey this is kinda wack right"
