Temperature profile taken along the Bridal Path trail on Mt. Lafayette in the #WhiteMountains of #NH on December 13th. Works out to a lapse-rate of ~6 C/km. 10 degrees and windy/blowing snow on the summit, such is winter!

Light Pillars at -10F in the Upper Valley, #NH. Also known as "Fool's Aurora" (or maybe not, I just made that up), these are formed by light pollution interacting with ice-fog when it's cold and still. #Weather,#Winter

Deep red #Aurora over #NewHampshire during last nights storm, some of the brightest mid-latitude aurora I've seen to date, filling the whole northern sky before the clouds moved back in.

Holy Shit.

Two (!) #X-flares from two different regions near the incoming limb certainly portends a very active week ahead. More remarkable is that a majority of the recent flaring (M5+) were also eruptive. #Aurora chasers, buckle up!

iPhone time-lapse of the #aurora from #Tromsø just prior to the 09/14 - 09/15 geomagnetic storm. Some faint curtains and a nice ribbon forming and dissipating about 10 minutes before the main event.

Timelapse showing interesting K-H wave like features in an auroral substorm during the 09/14 - 09/15 geomagnetic storm. #Aurora

SPACE! Shooting southwest into the #milkyway galactic core as summer comes to a close. Not the best picture, but passable for not using a tracker mount. #astrophotograpy

Major longgggggg duration flare and Earth directed #CME in progress! Full halo #CME already visible on #GOES. Geomagnetic activity is likely in the coming days.

Watermelon tourmaline: #aurora over #Vermont from the other night.
March 25, 2025 at 10:20 PM
M-flare from region 4028 and associated filament release appears to have launched an Earth-directed #CME. Coronagraph data from #SOHO confirms a faint, but clear #halo-cme. #aurora watchers should be tuned in for possibility for geomagnetic effects sometime between the 23rd & 25th.

Effects of #CIR + glancing #CME increase the chance for visible #aurora over the NEUS tonight. Solar wind speeds are ~ 500km/s & #bT ~30nT, which is craziness for a #CIR. If mag-field orientation gets more favorable, I expect at least G1/G2 storming. Also, 4cast clear skies for NEUS 🙃 🤞.

Satellite animation of the insane March 14 #dust storm from #GOES-16 true and false color imagery. Initial surge of dust crosses TX before all of eastern NM and western TX seem to erupt in the afternoon. A secondary surge of dust occurs near the end across eastern CO and western KS.

Absolutely insane #dust storm currently taking place across large portions of Texas and Oklahoma as visualized by GOES True Color Satellite imagery.
